CONTENT OVERVIEW

Prepare for PTE Academic and NAATI CCL in Australia with personalised guidance, structured practice and expert support. Build your English and community-language skills for study, career and eligible skilled migration pathways, and approach your test with greater confidence.

Achieving the right English and community-language credentials can be an important part of your study, professional and skilled migration plans in Australia. Global Consult provides structured PTE preparation and NAATI CCL preparation to help students and graduates understand the test requirements, build the skills they need and prepare with greater confidence.

Whether you are preparing for an Australian education pathway, meeting an English-language requirement or considering a points-tested skilled migration pathway, effective preparation starts with understanding the test and setting realistic goals.

PTE Preparation in Australia

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a computer-based English language test that assesses four communicative skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening. It is used for study, work and migration purposes, and is accepted by the Australian Government for relevant visa applications where an English test is required.

PTE Academic is scored on a scale from 10 to 90, with individual scores for speaking, writing, reading and listening. The score you need depends on the purpose of your test, such as your education provider or visa pathway.

Why PTE Preparation Matters

PTE is not simply an English examination. It requires you to understand the test format, manage your time effectively and respond appropriately to different question types.

Our PTE preparation focuses on developing skills across:

  • Speaking
  • Writing
  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Pronunciation and oral fluency
  • Grammar and vocabulary
  • Academic English
  • Test strategies and time management
  • Familiarity with question types
  • Practice and performance review

The goal is to help you become familiar with the examination and improve the areas where you need additional practice.

Understand the Current PTE Academic Test

PTE Academic currently includes three main parts:

1. Speaking & Writing

This is the longest section and includes a range of question types that assess speaking and writing skills.

Current question types include:

  • Read Aloud
  • Repeat Sentence
  • Describe Image
  • Retell Lecture
  • Answer Short Question
  • Summarise Group Discussion
  • Respond to a Situation
  • Summarise Written Text
  • Write Essay

The current test includes the Summarise Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation question types, introduced for tests taken from 7 August 2025.

2. Reading

The Reading section assesses your ability to understand and analyse written English.

It includes question types such as:

  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Multiple Choice
  • Reorder Paragraphs
  • Reading and Writing: Fill in the Blanks

Some PTE questions assess more than one language skill, so understanding how individual tasks contribute to your overall performance is important.

3. Listening

The Listening section evaluates your ability to understand spoken English and respond accurately.

Preparation can include:

  • Listening comprehension
  • Note-taking
  • Summarising information
  • Identifying key information
  • Understanding different accents
  • Improving concentration
  • Managing time effectively

PTE Preparation for Study in Australia

Many international students take PTE Academic as part of their education planning. Australian universities, colleges and other education providers may set their own English-language requirements, so students should always check the exact score required for their chosen course and institution.

Global Consult can help you understand the relationship between your English test preparation and your broader education plans, including:

  • Course selection
  • College and university admissions
  • English-language requirements
  • Further study
  • Professional Year planning
  • Career development

PTE Preparation for Australian Visa Pathways

PTE Academic is also accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for relevant visa and migration applications where English-language evidence is required. The required score depends on the particular visa and the level of English required.

Because Australian English-language requirements can change, applicants should confirm the current requirement for their specific visa before booking their test.

Our role is to help you understand your preparation needs and plan your English testing around your broader education or migration objectives.

NAATI CCL Preparation

The NAATI Credentialed Community Language (CCL) Test assesses your ability to communicate between English and another language at a community level.

The CCL test is generally taken by people considering points-based skilled migration pathways in Australia where Credentialed Community Language points are available. NAATI currently offers the test in 55 languages, including Nepali, subject to current availability.

A successful CCL result can allow an eligible applicant to claim 5 Credentialed Community Language points, subject to the applicable migration requirements at the time of application.

Important: CCL Is Not a Translator or Interpreter Qualification

Passing the NAATI CCL test does not qualify you to work professionally as a translator or interpreter. It is a separate assessment used for Credentialed Community Language purposes.

What Does the NAATI CCL Test Involve?

The CCL test involves two pre-recorded dialogues between an English speaker and a speaker of another language.

Candidates interpret the conversations between English and their nominated language.

According to NAATI’s current requirements:

  • There are two dialogues
  • Each dialogue is approximately 300 words
  • Each dialogue is worth 45 marks
  • The total score is 90
  • A candidate needs at least 63 marks overall
  • A minimum of 29 marks is required in each dialogue to pass

The test assesses your ability to communicate meaning accurately while maintaining appropriate language quality, register and delivery.

NAATI CCL Preparation Areas

Our preparation can help candidates develop the skills needed for the CCL assessment, including:

Interpretation Accuracy

Learn to transfer the meaning of a conversation accurately without unnecessarily adding or removing information.

Listening Skills

Develop the ability to listen carefully, understand key information and respond promptly.

Vocabulary Development

Build useful English and community-language vocabulary across common CCL topics.

Language Register

Practise using language appropriate to the context and level of formality.

Speaking and Delivery

Improve clarity, pronunciation, fluency and confidence while interpreting.

Memory and Concentration

Develop techniques for retaining information and reproducing the meaning accurately.

Practice Dialogues

Regular practice helps you become familiar with the format and identify areas that require improvement.

NAATI CCL Languages

NAATI currently provides CCL testing in a wide range of community languages. These include:

  • Nepali
  • Hindi
  • Punjabi
  • Urdu
  • Bengali
  • Mandarin
  • Cantonese
  • Tamil
  • Telugu
  • Malayalam
  • Gujarati
  • Sinhala
  • Arabic
  • Korean
  • Japanese
  • Vietnamese
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish

PTE and NAATI CCL for Skilled Migration Planning

English-language performance and Credentialed Community Language points can be relevant to some Australian skilled migration pathways.

However, a PTE result or NAATI CCL pass does not by itself guarantee a visa, invitation or permanent residency.

Your migration options can depend on factors including:

  • Age
  • Occupation
  • Skills assessment
  • English proficiency
  • Qualifications
  • Skilled employment
  • Points score
  • State or territory nomination
  • Visa subclass
  • Current migration requirements

For this reason, language test preparation should be considered as part of your broader education and career planning rather than as a standalone guarantee of a migration outcome.

PTE vs NAATI CCL

PTE Academic NAATI CCL
English-language proficiency test Community language assessment
Tests speaking, writing, reading and listening Assesses communication between English and another language
